Dundee Student wins through to Scottish STEP Awards Finals

Dundee University student Gary Lumsden was employed by SMS to investigate a development project with funding made available through the Shell Technology Enterprise Programme. The project was to design a solution that would encapsulate the company’s Microsoft Visual Basic.Net applications within a MS Visual Basic 6 MDI application.

The outcome of the project was a generic and reusable solution, suitable for future .Net framework applications. Gary completed the groundbreaking project, which much of the development community said was impossible, within eight weeks. Gary won the Area Finals and progressed onto the Scottish Finals where he narrowly missed out on the coveted award. The technology has already been integrated into Sapphire SQL and the possibility of licensing the technology is being considered.

Funding Awarded for Manufacturing Software Solution

Scottish Enterprise Tayside through the Small Company Innovation Support scheme announce funding for Sapphire Manufacturing's next generation software.

The new version offers many new features such as a critical only file reindex, reindexes the heavily used files within the system. This task can be run everynight and thus can potentially save customers hours in costly downtime waiting for broken files to be fixed. We highly recommend the product to all of our customers using our SMS Sapphire software as well as Sage Line 100.

Sapphire Manufacturing v10R Released
